Parallel Lives

Picture of front cover of a new book called "Parallel Lives"

Rita Harrison is a survivor of childhood abuse and a supporter of NAPAC - and we think she's fab!

Parallel Lives is an illustrated collection of poems that trace the lives of two girls who went to school together. In verse, Rita sensitively traces the contrasting experiences from birth to old age, of two girls whose lives crossed briefly in childhood: Lily who was abused as a child and Bernadette who was not.

Rita dedicates her poems to those people whose lives are indelibly scarred by actions over which they had no control.

Rita wants to help raise awareness of NAPAC and has generously said that 100% of the profits from Parallel Lives will come to NAPAC! We are incredibly thankful for all that she has done and continues to do to help survivors of childhood abuse.

At a bargain price of £5.99, you can play your part in helping support the work we do by buying a copy of Parallel Lives.

Getting your copy couldn't be easier! All you have to do is email Rita at thepoetsings@talktalk.net telling her how many copies you'd like and the address to send them to. Once you've sent your email to Rita, all that's left to do is send a cheque or postal order (made payable to NAPAC) to the address below for the cost of your order (postage and packaging are free). Your copy (or copies) of Parallel Lives will be sent as soon as possible!

Rita Wins an Award!

The 6th of May 2010 wasn't just the day of the general election... it was also the day when The Society of Authors met for The David St John Thomas Charitable Trust Poetry Competition. The lovely Rita Harrison, author of Parallel Lives, was entered into the competition and she once again did NAPAC proud!

Rita won the Community Grand Award which is for a book that is self-published and raises money for a good cause. The judge said that her book was well-written and tastefully presented, and not just a case of someone donating their proceeds to charity, but creating awareness of child abuse and promoting the work of NAPAC. Therefore she was chosen as the outright winner for this award!

We love Rita!

Below is a little video clip of Rita shortly after receiving the award. Please excuse our amateur sound quality - even though it's not professionally recorded we thought we'd add it to the NAPAC website anyway... so you can share in our joy!
