Principle 3: An example – Version 2
Scenario: A social care professional speaking with an adult who is hesitant to engage in support after experiencing trauma.
With relationship-focused language:
“I can see that this might feel overwhelming, and I want you to know that it’s okay to take things at your own pace. Trust is something we’ll build together, and I’m here to support you whenever you feel ready to take the next step.”
Why it’s relationship-focused:
This language conveys empathy and respect for the person’s feelings while reinforcing a commitment to a trusting and collaborative relationship. It acknowledges the individual’s hesitancy as valid and creates space for them to feel safe and supported.
